A 70-year-old patient was admitted to the ICU after cemented total hip replacement due to medial fracture of the femoral neck. Patient´s history encompasses Alzheimer´s disease, permanent atrial fibrillation. He underwent laparoscopic prostatectomy 14 days ago. The patient was admitted to ICU due to rapid ventricular response (atrial fibrillation) and postoperative anxiety. Blood loss during the operation was estimated to be 500 ml. The patient received two fresh frozen plasmas and one packed red blood cells. Haemoglobin was 125 g/l during admission.

 

Rapid atrial fibrillation with a ventricular response of 150/min was present during admission to ICU. Blood pressure dropped to 80/50 mmHg.
